Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards

Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards

Multidisciplinary tumor boards, which meet weekly, consist of primary care physicians, surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurse navigators, clinical trial coordinators, biospecimens coordinator and other allied health professionals. The participants vary depending on the type of cancer being evaluated.

During the meeting, physicians refer to their respective patient cases and present all radiologic and pathologic findings to the rest of the team. The treatment options are then discussed by all in attendance. By the meeting's end, the presenting physician has received multiple opinions on the best treatment plan and, as a result, determines their next course of action.

Multidisciplinary tumor board reviews are available for breast, lung, head and neck, gastrointestinal (stomach, colorectal) and genitourinary (bladder, kidney, prostate) cancer patients.
