Multidisciplinary Teams

At the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion, every patient is ensured the highest quality care, which includes support from a team of specially trained professionals—our multidisciplinary cancer teams—who work toward best practices of care for St. Joseph's/Candler patients.

Our multidisciplinary cancer teams represent all cancer specialties, including:

Each team is comprised of a multidisciplinary volunteer group of private-practice professionals, which might include radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and family and internal medicine physicians. Additionally, every team has a support staff of nurses, social workers, nutritionists, cancer registrars, researchers and other ancillary staff. The multidisciplinary team committees meet quarterly.

The goals of our multidisciplinary cancer teams are simple:

  • The clinical purpose is to follow the best practices for cancer care treatment for St. Joseph's/Candler patients, using accepted national guidelines such as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).
  • The strategic purpose is to offer new technologies and services to the Savannah community and beyond, which can help lower the incidence of cancer and give patients the best opportunity for quality of care.

St. Joseph's/Candler continues to build the strengths of each multidisciplinary cancer team and to offer patients the best overall cancer care possible.
